The awareness and prevention of teen bullying is a topic very near and dear to my heart. I suspect you have heard about the latest teen suicide instigated by cyber bullying. If not here is the run down...
Amanda Todd a 15 yr old native of Port Coquitlam, BC has taken her own life due to the pressures of bullying. As a parent, I am completely outraged that yet again an innocent child has resorted to suicide in dealing with teen bullies. Amanda made a youtube video as a cry for help where she documented a sad portrayal of her depression, anxiety, isolation, suicide attempts and the alleged reasons for her bullying. Below is a link to her story from the Globe with a link to the video she made. I encourage all of you to watch it. As graphic as the content may be it`s a story that needs to be heard and shared. This poor girl was silenced by teen bullies, she may have lost her voice but we still have ours and we need to use it. We need to set an example, a precedent that this behavior will not be tolerated any longer. Teen bullies need to be prosecuted. Amanda is just one of many children who resort to suicide when dealing with school related bullying. We don`t typically hear about suicides, in fact this kind of death is rarely shared within our society. If we continue to turn a blind eye to this behavior nothing is going to change. We need to make a change! We need to defend those who cannot defend themselves, we need to speak for those who have been silenced and we need to be this change. Please educate your children and get involved with their school, friends and social circles as much as possible. Share this story with everyone you can!
